Racing series and individual races that are available to try. We have tried to give a ball park estimate of cost and level of driving needed, but there is always a range, sometimes a very wide range, of both. (Let the arguments begin, lol)
24 Hours of Lemons: Where our team really started and currently reside. Sometimes described as a mix between racing and Halloween, which we obviously fully support. Safety is the primary focus, going fast is further down the list. Teams are friendly and “friendly competitive” but always willing to help each other. A great racing series to start and grow in. Lemons will stay on our schedule for as long as we race.
Driving Level: First time to Advanced. Car Cost: +/-$6,000 for team and safety equipment.
AER: American Endurance Racing. One of the higher levels of grassroots racing with some cars being very fast. The cars tend to all look more like race cars and usually the cost is a bit higher. They have a great offer where your first race with them is free.
Driving Level: Good Experience to Advanced. Car Cost: +/-$12,000 and way up for team and safety equipment.
Bertil Roos: We added this as an option for team cart racing. Our team has done it several times at Pocono, but is available at several tracks around the US. Its a great way to learn control and get used to driving competitively.
Driving Level: First time to Advanced. Car Cost: $0, entry $800 for team and safety equipment.
Champ Car: We have not raced here, yet and probably our biggest gap at this point.
Driving Level: Beginner to Advanced. Car Cost: +/-$10,000 and up for team and safety equipment.
GridLife: Mostly sprint racing with a lot of Time Attack levels as well as 1 wheel to wheel racing series (GLTC). Grid Life also has drifting at several events, as well as HPDE instruction. The festivals are something to be experienced.
K1 Speed: a nationwide go cart track that offers racing series for juniors and adults. A good way to spend your winter, if you have one.
Driving Level: First Time to Advanced. Car Cost: rent by the race, $40-50 per race.
Lucky Dog: Mostly on the west coast at this point. Open to entry level and above. Lucky Dog races on a ton of great “bucket list” tracks, especially if you are an east coast based team. We go to any event that we can and area willing to travel great distances to any LDRL event that we can get into our schedule.
Driving Level: Good Experience to Advanced. Car Cost: +/-$12,000 for team and safety equipment.
NASA: One of the two primary nationwide auto racing series we know of with a lot of different types of racing and levels from stock/showroom cars to more dedicated/modified cars. Trying to figure the nomenclature out as we speak. A great source for driver instruction.
Driving Level: Entry level to Professional. Car Cost: +/-$0 (daily driver) to a whole lot for team and safety equipment.
SCCA: The other primary nationwide auto racing series with an even more complicated set of levels, lol. Several racing series for open wheel racing. We are still digging in and learning (Where is the Universal Translator when you need it).
Driving Level: Entry level to Professional. Car Cost: +/-$0 (daily driver) to a whole lot for team and safety equipment.
SpecCorvette: We have not raced here, yet. A relatively new series we heard about. It looks pretty interesting and relatively low cost for very competitive racing. Soon to be on our list when/if they make it to the east coast and we buy a corvette project car! (estimate +/- $20k)
Driving Level: Good Experience to Advanced. Car Cost: +/-$20,000 for team and safety equipment.
WRL: We have not raced here, yet. We have heard great things about the competitiveness of the races and its on our to do list. We need to get better and probably get a better car for this series or convert one of the daily drivers to this.
Driving Level: Experienced to Advanced. Car Cost: +/-$30,000 (SWAG) for team and safety equipment.
Did we miss some or should we add one? Please let us know.
Enjoy the ride!
