DwD 0507:  Racing the Track vs Racing the Other Cars

racing the track

One of the issues that several of our teams’ drivers have had, especially when they first started was racing vs the other cars vs racing the track (or themselves).  We talked with Ben about why each of these can be correct and how to minimize mistakes in going too far in one direction or the other.  The ratio likely changes as you progress as a racing driver.

Do you agree?  Let us know.

The Mythology of Late Apex and Braking in a Straight Line

late apex

In this episode of Dominating with Dawson, we go over the often heard mantra of always use a late apex and always brake in a straight line.  While these may be useful in some turns, they should not be construed as applicable to 100% of your laps.  We go into why these methodologies are often taught early in a driver’s education, as well as what the alternatives are and when to start to expand your repertoire and incorporate more advanced techniques.

The Best Track Car

DwD 0491:  The Best Track Car

We were recently asked what car we would recommend learning to drive on a track.  In this episode, we go into some of the primary factors we see that would help someone to learn to drive on a track as quickly and efficiently as possible.

So what do you think is the best car to learn to drive on track?

Minimizing Distance vs Maximizing a Turn’s Min Speed

min distance

DwD 0486:  Minimizing Distance vs Maximizing a Turn’s Min Speed

In Autocross, it is often correct to minimize distance to improve your time.  On track, it is a bit more complicated due to the longer duration of the turns and the higher speeds and higher variation of speeds.  During this episode, Ben and Bill talk through a few of the aspects of the track that can impact when to minimize distance and when to move your min speed in a turn to improve your overall lap time.  Part 1 of many.
