GHIT 0368: Team Status Update

After having a few inquiries at the track and via social media, we begin to review what we are up to and working on as a team and some of the projects and issue we are working on. This episode is a partial laundry list of some of the more significant near term items we are working on or pondering, as well as a few of our goals going into the approaching offseason. At this point, we consider these types of episodes a work in progress and expect them to come out less than weekly, but we hope they help everyone. Also, please feel free to ask any questions on things we are working on or any topic we may be able to help you with. We hope you enjoy the episode.

We recorded this a few days ago and then were officially hit with Covid. Sorry for the delay and that explains a bit of the lower E than normal for this one.

This Dominating with Dawson is aimed at what came be source of pre-event angst and again deals with the unknown. This time we go through what is meant by gridding ahead of an HPDE stint. In addition, we discuss some of the decisions and thoughts that we have used to improve the HPDE experience. This includes why and where to grid up for the stint as a function of the car you are driving and the experience that you may have with this organization, as well as several other items. As always, the unknown is what can be intimidating but there is really nothing to be concerned about.

DwD 0354: Overdoing It and Leading to Potential Burnout

As is often the case, we sometimes show you what not to do. This time, it was after three straight race weekends in multiple states that Bill entered a zombie state. This is not optimal for performance or enjoyment and can not only turn a fun recreational past time into a large effort/struggle, but can also impact your performance and potentially the personal safety through car preparation and/or your driving. We illustrate this by our recent poor performance after our last endurance race. It is still a good idea to treat a HPDE/race weekend as a sporting event and prepare for it accordingly, including food, drink, and sleep. Ben offers up several indicators that can help you self diagnose when this may be happening to you at an event.

Track Day at the NY Safety Track

GHIT 0352: Our Track Day at the NY Safety Track

When we were invited to a new track for an HPDE we did what we always say to do – “say yes” and thank you. Our drivers for the event were Vicki, Alan, and Jen. Bill was there primarily to help instruct and to start breaking in our new race car. Even better, Kyle Lockrow said he wanted to come over and help out in any way. Finally, someone to instruct Vicki, lol. One this episode, we talk about prepping our three cars, how is this new to us track, and the event overall. We had a few mechanical issues with our cars, but overall the event was great and well worth going, especially if you are in the area. Special thanks to Mario and Ian Korf for setting up this event.

What is rotation – Part 4

DwD 0351: What is rotation – Part 4 or maybe more?

We are going to take advantage of this week’s Judge Jeremy covering for Ben and go into car rotation for at least the fourth time. We try to discuss what people are talking about when they refer to a car having good or bad rotation or how they were able to get the car to rotate through a turn. The last time we looked, there are several potential axes of rotation, and many/most can result in a poor or expensive outcome. Once again, this is a topic that we may need to revisit in a future episode, lol, but we give it another good try and did a lot better than some of our previous discussions.
