GHiT 0455:  Lisa Keyes Driving Scholarship Winner From Grid Life, GLTC, and Instructor

We first met Lisa Keyes at last year’s GridLife event at NJMP where she was competing in GLTC, lead instructor for the entire event, and trying to survive the 100+F degree weekend.  Luckily, we were able to lure her into  a conversation or two over our much coveted Freezie Pop supply.  During this episode, we go into her driving history and how she came to be driving in GLTC and lead instructor for many GridLife events.  We each shared our EG Honda Civics while at NJMP and tried to catch up with how things have progressed and plans for this year and going forward. PS Lisa made it to Watkins Glen GLTC event last weekend.

We catch up with Justin and Tiffany Kelly and learn all about what they have been up to since we last spoke.  Their current focus is on shifter karts and instruction.  We had never covered shifter karts to this point on the podcast and the performance of a shifter kart almost demands that you grow as a driver quickly.  So if you are looking to improve your driving and get into a vehicle that is close to the performance of an Indy car or F1 car at a reasonable price, shifter karts may be for you.  And us.  Bill is already shopping.

GHiT 0445:  Nik Romano from Fast Sideway – Suspension 101 – Part 2

We started our introduction to suspensions on episode 430 with Nik Romano.  Nik rejoins for part 2 of our Suspension 101 series. In this episode, we move on from suspension geometry and start to deal with the most important aspect of a suspension : the interaction of the tire with the track.  We go into a simple way to test how/if your suspension geometry changes are during its travel up and down (compression and rebound).  Next, we go into some of the different types of fixed and adjustable coil overs and how they are constructed and work within the suspension system.  We even begin to get into how you can use the suspension to increase grip and then to start to shift the grip around within your car to aid your driving.

We answer the question that has puzzled us since the beginning “why would you want a rear wing on a front wheel drive car”?
