Dominating with Dawson

Determining the Rain Line

DwD 0279: Determining the Rain Line

On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, Alex joins us to help define what the rain line is on a track and how to find it on a track, especially when it is our first time at a track.  The discussion wanders a bit, but all of it should help you in determining the rain line and allow you to optimize it to that specific day’s track conditions and your car.

If you would be interested in helping grow our sport of high performance driving and our podcast:

You can subscribe to our podcast on the podcast provider of your choice, including the Apple podcast app, Google music, Amazon, and YouTube etc. Also, if you could give our podcast a (5-star?) rating or even better, a podcast review, we would greatly appreciate it and it would help us to grow the passion and sport of high performance driving.

For instance, leaving an Apple Podcast rating is very easy.  If you go to your podcast library, under shows and click on the podcast you can leave a (5?) star rating and enter your review.

We hope you enjoy this episode!

PS  Please don’t forget that if you are looking to add an Apex Pro to your driving telemetry system, don’t forget to use our discount code. When purchasing an Apex Pro systems you will receive a free Windshield Suction Cup Mount for the system. (a savings of $40)  Just enter the code “ghitlikesapex!” when you order.  They are a great system and truly invaluable in safely increasing your speed on track and/or autocross etc.

What Tire Pressure Should I Use

Such a simple question or is it?

DwD 0277: “What Tire Pressure Should I Use” – such a simple question or is it

On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we try to answer the potentially unanswerable question that we hear at the track “What Tire Pressure Should I Use?”.  Alex joins us as we try to answer as best we can.  First we go over  several  of the factors that can affect what the answer could be.  Next we try to go into the various methods that can be used to actually determine the correct answer.  (The reference to Andy Hollis during this episode is expected by all long time racers.)  Now is we can only have Mr. Hollis as a guest on the podcast.  We have a ton of questions.

Double Apex Turns

Double Apex
Traditional Late Apex vs Double Apex/Diamond

DwD 0273:  Double Apex Turns

On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we cover two of the potential ways to approach several turn types that you will encounter on a track.  In longer turns/turns that require a large direction change like a 180 degree turn etc.  In several of these turns it may be faster to try to get through the turn with a classic late apex, but in some turns, it is often better to use a double apex approach or even a V-turn.  We try to discuss how to tell what you should do and several of the factors that would influence your choice.  Also, this is the first episode of DwD where we have Alex as a guest host.

Survive the 25

Sometimes with a hobby, things can get out of balance. Especially if your hobby is in the least bit competitive and you are a competitive person. This is particularly true of racing drivers. And that is why we are starting the Survive the 25 challenge.

As such, four of the hosts from four of your favorite podcasts have joined together for a 2021 winter challenge.

We have agreed to a contest where hopefully we will all win.

By April 15th, each of us will have

  • Lost at least 25 pounds (~11.5 kg)
  • Read at least 5 racing books
  • Raced in at least 5 karting races or sim racing events for at least 1 hour

We would love it if you would like to join us.

Simply post on Instagram using the hashtag #SurviveThe25 and we will figure out how to get a leaderboard together and maybe some swag from your favorite podcasts.

Survive the 25 Podcast Host Challengers

In the South Jersey corner, we have Jeff Wakeman, one of the hosts of the Everyone Racers podcast

In the SoCal corner we have two podcast hosts.

Joining us from parts unknown, is Jamie, host of the Racer FF podcast.

Also from the SoCal corner, we have Jon who cohosts the NinetyOneOctane podcast.

And from the northeast corner of Pennsylvania, we have one of the hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training podcast.

Who will win?

Who will not win?

Do you have a favorite?

Why aren’t you listening to all of these podcasts?

Also, any good racing related book suggestions are welcome as well.

Please let us know in the comments below.

Our Survive the 25 Podcast Participants

Slip Angle Podcast: New Slip Angle Podcasts are posted every Tuesday and Friday (usually).  They cover track days, club racing, autocrossing, and other various driving hobbies. By drivers, for drivers.

RaceFF Podcast: A podcast about road racing in So Cal focusing on FF cars.

Everyone Racers (E1R) Podcast : Everyone Racers is a podcast that focuses on amateur endurance racing from beginner to advanced, as well as the news, tips, and tricks that go along with our hobby. Four friends and often teammates; Chrissy Mittura, Christopher Abbott, Jeff Wakemen and Christian “Mental” Ward discuss current racing trends and news, as well as occasional interviews and guests who are interesting people with different perspectives on racing and car culture. You never know what they’ll discuss each week, but it will be entertaining!

Ninety One Octane Podcast: An automotive enthusiast and a self proclaimed track junkie break down cars, car culture, and everything in between. Randy from Detroit, and Jon from Los Angeles, offer differing and down right wild perspectives that go well past the usual car review dribble you have grown accustomed to.

Garage Heroes In Training Podcast: You are here, so you probably already know, but, we are an amateur endurance auto racing team. We hope to show everyone that they too can participate in performance driving. We are a relatively new team and learning right along with you. Our assumption is that you know very little to nothing about the sport but are interested in learning to drive better and eventually maybe even race in a local event of interest. We will cover all forms of racing and hope to be entertaining as well as educational.
