We met Dewey Dewitt for the first time at last year’s GridLife event at NJMP and then again this year where he won the Street Mod class in Time Attack.  We talk about Subarus and Time Attack, two things we haven’t talked about much on the podcast to this point.  If you’ve never been at a track and seen Dewey’s post event celebrations, you really need to come to an upcoming event.  Dewey is currently leading in GridLife’s Street Mod Time Attack.  Also, since we recorded, Dewey has started his own podcast and we can’t wait to subscribe.

GHiT 0482:  Recap of GridLife NJMP 2023 and Our First Time Working with a Coach – Miss Jackie

What a great weekend we had at the recent GridLife NJMP 2023.  Our team worked with Jackie Andrews as our coach for the Grid Life event at NJMP.  Jeremy and Nick were in the advanced HPDE group in their E46 BMW 3-series street’ish cars.  Jennifer was in our B Spec Fit in HPDE and Vicki was in HPDE in our new E46 race car but switched to our Honda Fit when we had a mechanical issue.  Bill was also in the B Spec Fit and competed in the Sundae Cup series, securing a solid last place.

We first met Lisa Keyes at last year’s GridLife event at NJMP where she was competing in GLTC, lead instructor for the entire event, and trying to survive the 100+F degree weekend.  Luckily, we were able to lure her into  a conversation or two over our much coveted Freezie Pop supply.  During this episode, we go into her driving history and how she came to be driving in GLTC and lead instructor for many GridLife events.  We each shared our EG Honda Civics while at NJMP and tried to catch up with how things have progressed and plans for this year and going forward. PS Lisa made it to Watkins Glen GLTC event last weekend.

GHIT 0417:  GHiT Goal Review – We Review 2022 and our Goals for 2023

Our team goes over our racing season for 2022 and how we did compared to our goals for the year.  In this annual review, we often find out we did well in many areas and totally blew it in others.  This year was no exception, lol.  We had Alan, Jennifer, Vicki, and Bill, as always, but Jeremy decided to join in for the fun and plan his 2023 with us.  We do this every year and find that it helps.  Some of the goals are more plans and some of them are usually pretty big stretches for us.  But, you never know what you can do until you try.  As a bonus, we look back at 2022 from a big picture perspective and see that we are still “In Training”.  (always will be!)

Frank Schwartz is a racer and owner of Grass Paddock Motorsports that rents B Spec Honda Fits and Mini Coopers.  He is also known online as the stepfather of B Spec racing. Frank seems to be a proud father to be of a potential new class of C Spec racing for the SCCA.  Frank is involved with getting people into the sport at a reasonable budget.  We ended up talking a great deal about racing in general, the motivations, as well as what you can get out of racing beyond “winning” the race. 

If you are ever interested in trying out B Spec racing, Grass Paddock Motorsports may be a great option. Especially if you are getting started and may be an even better option to stay racing.  While we are here, you know we couldn’t help but ask what to do to get involved in B Spec racing and prepare a car.  Or two.  Well, maybe 3.  How about 4.  That sounds better.  #VickiIsGoingToKillBill
