What is a Drivers Meeting

and Why You Should Always Attend

DwD 0362:  Racing 101:  What is a Drivers Meeting and Why You Should Always Attend

In our continuing introduction to racing series and breaking down some of the jargon involved with getting into driving on a track, we talk through with Ben what a drivers meeting is, what is usually covered, and why you should always attend, even if you have been to literally hundreds of them.  We then go into a related communication technique that we use at the track, a common team text thread to communicate to all people at the event.  It is so easy and so very helpful.

Optimal Mirror Positioning

DwD 0360:  Optimal Mirror Positioning Tips

One of the fundamental aspects of racing that everyone agrees upon is the importance of your vision and constantly working to improve it.  Unfortunately, when you are starting out, this is even more important since it is very likely that your relative speed is lower than some of the other more experience drivers on a track and it is demanding both in front of you and behind you.  On this episode, we look at several options for selecting and installing the mirrors, as well as the mirror positioning to help improve your overall vision.

Roles Within a Team

team roles

DwD 0357:  Roles Within a Team Defined

It is often said that the key to winning an endurance race is a management problem and not primarily a speed problem.  In this Dominating with Dawson episode, we go over some of the roles for a team that are needed to successfully accomplish a racing or HPDE event.  Each of the roles functions are needed. Team members often will be required to help the team with several roles especially for those who attend events solo.  This episode will help your performance and also make you feel better about being tired after a race weekend.

Highlights for this episode include:

1)  We start off with a simple one, how to improve when your current limit is self-imposed by your natural tendency towards self-preservation and what can be helpful in pushing through this ever so common barrier.

2)  When should an instructor move from an instructing role to a coaching role with a student or client.

3)  What to look at when looking at your data and video as your driving skill improves.  (and overthinking it like Reese).

4)  Advice to break through a plateau.

5)  What to look at when reviewing your in-car video at a track.

6)  The difference between being Smooth vs being Fast and Smooth

7)  Using anticipation vs reaction as well as the subtle differences between having an expectation versus anticipation.

8)  Some ideas on how to help a student who is lacking confidence or has had a recent bad experience on track.

9)  Vicki is still working on getting an understanding of what the friction circle is and several ways for what to look for and how to interpret it best.

As always, we had some great discussion with Ross on related areas and some unrelated areas.
