GHIT 302: Race Weekend Recap: Lucky Dog Racing at CMP

After a series of failed intros, Bill is interrogated tonight about how the Lucky Dog Racing at CMP went with Skunk Oil Racing. It was quite a weekend and some hardware was taken home from the track. As always, Cathy and the Lucky Dog family had a superb event. We were honored to work on our car in their garage all weekend, lol. This is our fourth race with Lucky Dog and we wish we had raced more. If you haven’t tried a Lucky Dog race, you really should. This was a big weekend. Discussing and Defining “Tenths”

DwD 0295: Discussing and Defining Driving at “X” Tenths

On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we talk about one of those concepts that is always discussed in the paddocks, especially at HPDE’s and endurance races. This week we go through a discussion of driving “intensity” that is often referred to in the arbitrary units of “tenths” as in driving at 8 tenths or 9 tenths or never drive at 10 tenths in an endurance race etc. What does this really mean? We discuss this after a quite side discussion on driving other peoples cars. Then we wrap this up with a tremendous article that our friend Peter Krause and former guest wrote about an example of a quantitative description of his definition of each of the “tenths” from low intensity to the higher and highest levels possible.

We hope the discussion is helpful in not only starting to refer to each level on a common reference but also the discussion it leads to when describing and defining your own personal driving limits and target.

GHIT 0202: Andrews Rains Returns to Discuss the Second Generation of Apex Pro

Andrew Rains returned to discuss the new second generation Apex Pro and the new release of the App. This episode was recorded a few weeks ago, but we go into the latest changes to the Apex Pro hardware and the Apex Pro software/app and some of Andrew’s recent racing with Grid Life in the GLTC series at National Corvette Museum Motorsports track (NCM) a very challenging track with lots of turns and a wide variety of turns and use it as a basis for showing some of the information that can be gained from using the data and comparing it to another driver.

On this episode’s Dominating with Dawson, Ben, Vicki, and Bill go into the factors of VIR that make it the legendary track that it is and why Ben always refers to it as a benchmark for so many different types of turns. 1) How the data from the Apex Pro showed Andrew what he was doing well and where he had opportunities to improve at NCM. Andrew also diagnosed how he could have changed his approach to the weekend and potentially improved his overall performance at a new and very complex/technical track like NCM.
