Jaime Garcia from the Race FF podcast returns to review his recent endurance race at Sonoma with the 24 Hours of Lemons. His team prepped their Toyota Corolla for the race for the last several weeks and had a great time at the event. They had a series of good and bad events during the race but ended up bringing home some well earned hardware. Was it a perfect race? Of course not. We aren’t even sure that is possible, but each race you learn a bit more and how to solve a few more problems. The Sonoma race was no exception. Day 1: If you ever wondered about what a Lemons Rally is, this series will cover the daily updates from this years Escape from Moscow rally. This year the rally started with a pre-event kickoff event at the local Circle Drive In theater. The official initial check in was at Montage Mountain ski resort. The end point for the rally is Road Atlanta in Brazleton, Georgia. The route is far from direct and some of these cars may not make it very far. We know of one for sure. We will try to have updates each evening and hope to make you feel like you are part of the event.

Day 2: It is day two of this years Escape from Moscow rally. We interrupt the festivities at a local Korean restaurant for an update from Jeff Stobbs. We then talk with two of the teams on the rally. Todays events have been quite lemony. We go through some of the highlights of the days journey. Next, we see how the teams are coping with the itinerary. We have several teams “succeeding” and gathering a ton of points. We will try to have updates each evening and make you feel like you are part of the event. If you are keeping score at home, you are obviously doing it wrong. As a “bonus” we hear from Randy, and Alex as they are mid journey to return the Saab for further repairs back home.

Day 3: It is day three of this years Escape from Moscow rally. Rally master Jeff Stobbs joins us for today’s update. We then talk to one of the two brothers (Max) from the Great Race team. They are participating in the rally in their ’67 Plymouth Valiant (former) race car. Points are not yet updated to reflect today’s events but who cares anyway? We will try to have a larger update tomorrow evening at the end of the rally at Road Atlanta. We hope to make you feel like you are part of the event.

Kyle Lockrow is a racing driver who has worked his way from a grassroots racing hobby to a professional career that has reached the NASCAR level. We had the opportunity to talk with him about his history and how amateur racing and especially amateur endurance racing has helped him progress and improve to the national level. His story is still being written, but after meeting him, we are huge fans and wish him nothing but the best. If that story isn’t inspiring enough, he did this in spite of racing with (our good friends at) Race Bar

4) Kyle’s schedule for 2022 is still to be finalized, but it sounds like a very busy year for him.

5) How amateur endurance taught Kyle how to pass and be passed, as well as sharpens his ability to race other cars.

6) Several of the differences between professional racing and amateur racing. Surprisingly, some of the pro’s can even learn a few things from our amateur teams that would help them on a race weekend.

7) Bill rambles through a question to try to quantify what the differences are between the driver pool in the pro series and the drivers in the amateur series drivers. Kyle makes the best of Bill’s awkwardly worded question, lol.

8) And then Kyle actually wanted to do our fast and furious story time questions. We thank him for tolerating our little slice of insanity.

GHIT 0262: Jaime Garcia from the RaceFF podcast returns to Talk about his 1st wheel-to-wheel race and upcoming Endurance Racing Prep

Jaime Garcia returns to discuss his first Honda Challenge H2 race which was his first ever wheel to wheel race and satisfied his lifelong goal. We also talk through his upcoming preparation for his new 24 Hours of Lemons endurance race. In Jaime’s last episode he was driving back his car after getting the cage installed so we had to see how his event went. Now we need to figure out how to get a photo of his (short) cross country exploits during the event. (Jaimie, please send us a shot or a link to where it is)(Christmas is coming you know, lol).

We also start discussing some of the differences in racing a front wheel drive car vs a rear wheel drive platform. Vicki is still going through some PTSD from her last race at Laguna Seca with Lucky Dog Racing League. We also discuss Jaime’s upcoming preparation project for his endurance race.

9) In the past, we have had three drivers have claustrophobic experiences/panic attacks when getting strapped into the car. We discuss several things we have found to help if this happens.

10) Critical spares and parts to bring tot he track with you and how to decide what to bring and what not to bring. We have a bit of a philosophy for each of our cars that dictates what we bring to an event.

11) Bunches of little tips and tricks for detailing the last few percent of your car.
