The 2022 Fall Failage Rally

Day 1 and Day 2 Lemons Rally Wrap Ups

Day 1: This episode is recorded live from the end point of day one for the Fall Failage Rally. The rally started near Boston and ended near Albany NY. We have a ton of photos posted to the Garage Heroes In Training podcast and many, many others can be found using the hashtag #lemonsrally on the IG. Sorry for a bit of the background noise but there is always a lot of rally activity. We plan on having a few more updates through the remaining rally days and can tell that everyone is having a great time. So, if you want to live vicariously through everyone’s exploits, join us is internet eavesdropping on Instagram and on the next episode of our podcast, or two, or three, tbd.

Day 2: Day two has concluded and we are reporting live from a restaurant arcade somewhere in either NY State or Vermont. It has been a long trip and another long day on the road. Spirits remain high and the rain has held off to this point. In addition, we have three entrants with birthdays today, so everyone wish them all a happy birthday. On this episode we are joined by Rally Master Jeff Stobbs and Tarl and Kirk, two entrants from the Cut Rate Roofing team in their “convertible” Econoline.

One of the fun things about meeting someone on the Sorry For Party team for the first time is whether they are in their race team regalia or in civilian clothes. We have found that often we have met the same person twice without knowing it. Tim Burr is no exception. We finally placed the name and the face at the spring PittRace event and then he joined us for the Thompson event while racing with Jeremy’s El Jeffe Trophy Truck team.

This episode gave us an opportunity to get to know Tim a bit better and how he has progressed to this point in racing and life. A great episode with a great person. In addition, during this episode, we go into the history of the Sorry For Party team, What to do and what not to do or look out for as an arrive and drive driver, as well as an in seat review of both the El Jeffe Trophy Truck and the 3PM Cheaties Cressida. And then we begin to make a great plan.

Race Review of Thompson 2022

GHIT 0363 Race Review of Thompson 2022 with the 24 Hours of Lemons

We entered three cars into this year’s 24 Hours of lemons race with the Honda Civic/Cookie Car still limping after our GridLife event, the El Jeffe/Bad Hombre/Trophy Truck/Chevy S10/Isuzu Hombre etc. prepped and ready for battle, and the MooStang/SpiderStang/1984 Mustang GT Turbo locked and loaded, almost. This weekend was another hot and humid August race at the Thompson Motor Speedway, and we had a true Good, Bad, and the Ugly weekend. We had another great weekend with all our friends at the track and we met a whole bunch more. We cannot wait to get back on track again. The team is in full post race hangover mode and some of our thoughts may not be directly related to what we said though our mouths. Sounds like a normal podcast episode. Rally Master Jeff Stobbs returns to report in live from the awards ceremony of the 2022 Rust Belt RambleRust Belt Ramble Rally between Detroit, Buffalo, Cleveland, The year there was a ceremony for dearly departed car makes of the past. We cover highlights of the trip as well as many of the entries. We are then joined by Finn, from The Car Farm channel on YouTube. They entered the rally in their Buick Grand National. One of the highlights from this event is the introduction of the Lemons Rally grill badges. The badges actually began at the last rally, but we didn’t do a good job of interviewing so its new to us. Lol. Vicki also gets a few tips on what to do for her first upcoming rally this fall.

As is often the case, we sometimes show you what not to do. This time, it was after three straight race weekends in multiple states that Bill entered a zombie state. This is not optimal for performance or enjoyment and can not only turn a fun recreational past time into a large effort/struggle, but can also impact your performance and potentially the personal safety through car preparation and/or your driving. We illustrate this by our recent poor performance after our last endurance race. It is still a good idea to treat a HPDE/race weekend as a sporting event and prepare for it accordingly, including food, drink, and sleep. Ben offers up several indicators that can help you self diagnose when this may be happening to you at an event.
